Anatomy . The nerves of your body all originate either from the brain or from the spinal cord. They then travel outward, giving off branches that allow your muscles to move, your fingers to feel, your eyes to see, etc.

To sum up: The Nervus laryngeus recurrens innervates not only the larynx, but also the esophagus and the trachea and moreover "gives several cardiac filaments to the deep part of the cardiac plexus" etc. (the latter not shown below, but see quotations above).

recurrens; inferior or recurrent laryngeal nerve ) arises, on the right side, in front of the subclavian artery; winds from before backward around that vessel, and ascends obliquely to the side of the trachea behind the common carotid artery, and either in front of or behind the inferior thyroid artery. Anatomy . A major feature of nerves is that they branch off in order to connect with different structures all over your body. While most of your nerves branch off from the spinal cord, the 12 cranial nerves originate in your brain.

oesophageal and lung cancer surgery [4-10]. Reputable anatomy books describe the RLN in cadavers, and this doesn’t pay a great service to the surgical practice on living humans [11,12]. This paper attempts to re-describe in extreme detail the anatomy of this nerve in the right and left chests, as seen through the eyes of a thoracic surgeon

This contribution draws attention to basic operation procedures, which protect not only nervus laryngeus recurrens in its typical position, but also its varieties such as nervus laryngeus non-recurrens.

Nervus laryngeus recurrens anatomy

The recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) branches off the vagus nerve and supplies function to some muscles of the larynx (voice box). You have two, one on each side, as you do with other nerves.

The recurrent laryngeal nerve gets its name from the fact that it loops below the aorta on its way to the intrinsic muscles of the larynx. [relevant?] The left recurrent laryngeal nerve passes under and around the aorta on its way to the larynx, whereas the right recurrent laryngeal nerve passes under and around the subclavian artery. Because the aorta is inferior to the subclavian artery, the left recurrent laryngeal nerve is a bit longer than the right recurrent laryngeal nerve.

Aufbau des Larynx (Kehlkopf) A branch of the vagus nerve curving upward, on the right side around the root of the subclavian artery, on the left side around the arch of the aorta, then passing superiorly, posterior to the common carotid artery between the trachea and the esophagus to the larynx; it supplies cardiac, tracheal, and esophageal branches and terminates as the inferior laryngeal nerve.

Nervus laryngeus recurrens est ramus nervi vagi musculos laryngis internos, extra musculum cricothyroideum (a nervo laryngeo superiore), innervans.
